Detailed Itinerary For 2008 Tour VIWC

Tuesday: August 12th, Day 1
Your free pickup starts the day at your home or hotel with a transfer to your long-distance motorcoach. You proceed to Horseshoe Bay for the 8:30 AM sailing by BC Ferries to Nanaimo's Departure Bay. Upon leaving Departure Bay your coach will follow the Island's coastal highway to Courtenay for lunch. Here you will board the VIA Rail E&N Malahat Dayliner. (If you boarded the train in Victoria this morning you will join us here). Our train arrives in Parksville where we transfer back to our motorcoach for a visit to Coombs Jct. Market. Then it's off to Port Alberni, crossing the Island's central mountain spine, for a visit to the top rated Alberni Valley Museum. Check in to your hotel at about 5:15 PM. You will have time to relax before a buffet dinner in the hotel at 6:30 PM.

Wednesday: August 13th, Day 2
A hot buffet breakfast is served at 6:30 AM and at 7:20 AM you leave the hotel for the short trip to the dock where you check in. You board the "Frances Barkley" coastal supply vessel that services Alberni Inlet sailing at 8:00 AM and stopping briefly at Sechart in the Broken Group Islands at about 11:00 AM. Scheduled arrival at Ucluelet is 12:30 PM. Lunch is on your own on board the ship. Your coach meets the group in Ucluelet and starts a beautiful afternoon of sightseeing in Pacific Rim National Park. Tofino and Radar Hill will be visited as well as a one-hour stop at the Wickaninnish Visitor Centre on beautiful Long Beach. We return to Ucluelet for the evening and a group dinner in a unique location.

Thursday: August 14th, Day 3
You have the morning free to visit this interesting seaside village. At 1:30 PM we will leave the village and visit a lighthouse on the southern end of the peninsula. We then depart for Port Alberni. Stops will be made at scenic overlooks and the water bomber base on Sproat Lake. You check in to the Port Alberni Hotel and relax before leaving at 5:45 PM for dinner at a nice seaside restaurant. Some may wish to walk back to the hotel or be transferred back in our coach .

Friday: August 15th, Day 4
Have breakfast at 8:00 AM and depart at 9:15 AM for the railway station where you will board the Alberni Pacific Railway train for its 10:00 AM departure for the McLean Mill National Historic site, (the only steam operated sawmill in Canada). Upon arrival take a tour of the mill, and have a light lunch. You leave at about 1:30 PM for the eastern side of the Island (Departure Bay) to catch the 4:30 PM sailing for Vancouver. (A stop at a rail station for those returning to Victoria on the Malahat Dayliner is possible***). Arrival in Vancouver is expected to be 7:00 PM. Drop-offs are arranged as we did with the pickups. Note: Free pickups and drop-offs are subject to some conditions.

*** For those wishing to take the train to Victoria The Malahat Dayliner is scheduled to leave Nanaimo at 3:00 PM and arrive in Victoria at 5:30 PM.

Saturday: August 16th, Day 5
You have time on our own in the provincial capital with its many attractions. Transfers from your hotel and return vouchers or tickets for your choice of bus/ferry service back to downtown Vancouver (unescorted) will be provided at check-in on Tuesday. (No meals supplied today).

FARES: The 4-Day Tour, Tuesday to Friday is $850 each based on shared accommodation. (BC Seniors $830). Single Supplement - $282. The 5-Day Tour including the train to Victoria, hotel and return transportation to Vancouver: $930, (BC Seniors $898). Single Supplement - $342. GST extra.
