Are you looking for the perfect place for a railway movie shoot? A place that offers
vintage trains, either static or operating, without the costs of tying up an operating
railway? Then check out the West Coast Railway Heritage Park and Western Canada's
largest collection of heritage railway equipment (1890 through 1960's). |
 |
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park has a number of movie and commercial shoot
credits, including Bye Bye Birdie starring Jason Alexander, Vanessa Williams, Tyne Daly
(ABC 1996), Runaway Train (1998) and The Secret of Giving starring Reba McIntyre
(CBS 1999).
A GREAT FILMING LOCATION
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park, located just north of Vancouver on the Sea to
Sky (Whistler) corridor in Squamish, B.C., is a 12 acre destination attraction built on a
railway heritage theme. Central to the site is Western Canada's largest heritage railway
equipment collection (65 pieces of rolling stock) and over 10,000 feet of operable
trackage.
The Heritage Park site features a variety of scenery options, including stunning mountain
and valley views, forested areas and flat open spaces. In filmings to date the site has been
shown as Sweet Apple, Ohio; Banff, Alberta and Charity, Oregon. A variety of scenes are
possible, with two railway stations (large and small) which allows for departure and
arrival shots in a film context.
Opening Spring 2000 will be the new community area of the Heritage Park, with the new
main railway station facility and a heritage home. To be added soon are the fire hall, and
a corner grocery store, then several more buildings in future years laid out along a typical
Main Street / Railway Ave. cross section.
The Heritage Park also offers a number of buildings - large (PGE Carshop 1914,
industrial) and small (Wilkie bunkhouse, scale house) on the property.
THE COLLECTION - AVAILABLE FOR MOVIE USE
 |
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park makes available much of its collection on a rental
basis for movie use both on and off site. From rolling stock (freight and passenger, 1890
through 1970 eras) to various props such as crossing signals, lanterns, railway uniforms
etc., Western Canada's largest heritage railway collection has what you need for your
railway movie shoot. |
 | |
Also available is our 3 km miniature railway line that encircles the Heritage Park, and
offers operating models of several of our full sized locomotives.
For rolling stock information, check out the "Our Collection" section of this website. Note
that some pieces of the collection are not released for operating movie work on account
of their fragile nature or extreme historical significance.
CONNECTED TO BC RAIL
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park is rail connected to BC Rail's mainline at
Squamish. This means easy access to the BC Rail line for rolling stock, should
operational requirements necessitate. The Heritage Park works cooperatively with BC Rail
on movie opportunities. BC Rail is a movie friendly railway with a high
quality mainline, stunning variety of scenery, and a significant collection of rolling stock
of its own.
