Are you looking for the perfect place for a railway movie shoot? A place that offers
vintage trains, either static or operating, without the costs of tying up an operating
railway? Then check out the West Coast Railway Heritage Park and Western Canada's
largest collection of heritage railway equipment (1890 through 1960's). |
 |
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park has a number of movie and commercial shoot
credits, including Bye Bye Birdie starring Jason Alexander, Vanessa Williams, Tyne Daly
(ABC 1996), Runaway Train (1998) and The Secret of Giving starring Reba McIntyre
(CBS 1999). The Heritage Park has also been the setting for numerous commercial shoots
and music videos, recently Shane Yellowbird's "Life Is Calling my Name" in June, 2008.
A GREAT FILMING LOCATION
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park, located just north of Vancouver on the Sea to Sky (Whistler) corridor in Squamish, B.C., consists of two core properties - a 12 acre destination attraction featuring a railway based townsite (circa 1900 through 1960) and an 8 acre industrial site featuring industrial settings and a large working railway shop facility. Central to the operation is Western Canada's largest collection of heritage railway rolling stock, number over 95 pieces, locomotives, freight and passenger trains, and over four miles of operating track.
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park can showcase about any kind of scenery option you might want, from townsite to forest valley, mountains and flat industrial settings. In filming to date, the site has been shown as Banff Alberta, Sweet Apple Ohio, Charity Oregon as well as Western Canada. A variety of scenes are possible with two railway station included on the site, allowing for departures and arrivals at two different settings.
The Heritage Park also offers a number of buildings, including the station and heritage house in the townsite, the large 1914 built PGE carshop, and the more recent Motive Power Shop (a large industrial building of 1970's vintage). Under construction now is the third phase of development, which puts in a vintage railway turntable and builds a new heritage styled Roundhouse building. There are numerous smaller structures also on the site.
