A Visit to the West Coast Railway Heritage Park - What You Will See

Scale House

This building was saved from the CNR yards in Vancouver. The structure was offered to WCRA in 1993. The Scale House holds special status as an “industrial artifact” and has its original C.N.R. paint scheme.

It contained the weigh scale balance beams and calibration weights. These were connected to an elaborate array of levers and rods under track sections which allowed the weight of the cars to be read. Weight was the usual measure to determine freight rates.
