ROYAL HUDSON PRESERVATION FUND GROWING

The WCRA’s new Royal Hudson Preservation Fund, established specifically for the purpose of preparing for and carrying out the care and restoration of Royal Hudson #2860, is starting to grow. As all expenditures need to be tracked and recorded as required by the terms of the lease agreement on the locomotive, the fund has been separated from other WCRA accounts. All donations are tax receiptable under our charitable status.

We’re delighted to say that this fund is already attracting donations, as we prepare to establish the Hudson and stabilize its condition at the Heritage Park, and then prepare for restoration work to begin. Further to our founding donation, we're pleased to recognize the following:

  • Canadian National pensioners $100
  • Henry Pennell $500US
  • Gary Yearley $500
  • Frances Farrant $50

The fund total now stands at $2,197.50.

Henry Pennell of Washington Depot, CT writes: “A good many years ago 2860 was for sale. There was an advertisement in TRAINS Magazine, but no price was given. When asked by my family what I wanted for Christmas, I handed them the ad. Needless to say, it didn’t turn up, but I have reminded them every Christmas since. When I was on your Northern Wilderness tour a few years ago, I finally saw 2860 in North Vancouver and had a chance to chat to the engineer, and had a most enjoyable visit”.

Don Whiting, a WCRA member and CPR employee in Montreal, e mails that he has started a bottle and can collection around the office there to generate proceeds for donations to the Royal Hudson Preservation Fund. That’s great.

Dorothea Matewish is holding a giant Garage Sale at her home on May 25, 1360 Plateau Drive, North Vancouver.

Contributions to the fund should be made out to the WCRA and noted Royal Hudson Preservation Fund.
