Very interested to know status of the rebuild on the Royal Hudson. Also wanted to know what the projected rebuild is going to cost and estimated timeframe.
Am going to make a donation in near future.
Wish you could talk Okanagan wine train into a steam Engine. Would surely boost their ridership.
Best Regards |

While on Holiday with my Canadian Girlfriend (Catherine) we visited your museum with Aunty Joan... it was a flying visit mainly to the gift shop to buy some pressies for my 6 year old train crazy sone back in the UK... we got a superb Steam train whistle which is one of his most prized possession now. I will be bringing my son to have a proper visit in the future and you never now by then my girlfriend Catherine will be my new Wife.... how proud will that make me... thank you for such a great museum.

Hi again, we spoke earlier in 2003. I have friends in Victoria who are trying very hard to implement a LRT system to reduce traffic congestion but no one's listening. Also, what a fight to keep the Good ol' EN Railway going up & down the Island. Everyone here says the same thing: Smarten up VIA! Make this a Real Rail Way! Send it down from Courtenay early in the a.m. to pick up commuters and day-tourists, arrive in Victoria after breakfast, drop off the business suits; then collect everyone at the end of the day to go home - instead of backasswards leaving Victoria! in the am... Or run a Fun Train both ways, to pass each other in Nanaimo. It's so sad to see the great potential here go deliberately in the can 'coz of politics. As for shooting down the StarLight and the Cariboo... criminal!! Better leave the fantasies right here, have taken up enough room. Keep up the good work and stay on track, eh, WCRA. J. |

I'm pleased to see 2860 being preserved with so much care. I have fond memories of being 6 years old and having my Grandfather lift me up the steps into the cab of 2860 in north Vancuver. My Grandparents Lived In cancuver for all their lives and took me on the excursion train to Squamish every summer. They also told me about seeing the royal train in 1939 and how much of a thrill it was to wave to the queen as she came to Vancuver . 1939 was the Same year they were married .
2860 has instilled in me a facination with steam locomotives that seems to grow every year. I hope to ride behind 2860 again some day and I will keep an eye on how things go.

Glad to see that 2860 will not be forgotten, albeit an expensive rebuild.
I rode behind her back in 1983 and I hope to take g/f from Surrey
on it if and when it returns to service.
I'll keep an eye on some of your tours up north -- since BC Rail
dumped the Cariboo Prospector, I don't have much choice but to either
drive or ride the bus (ewwwww).

My wife and i visited your museum in June last year (200@). We spent a full day there and really enjoyed it. We caught the BC Rail train up from Nth Vancouver, but now have found out that the service no longer exists (very sad).
We plan to come back to Canada within the next 12 months or so and hope to go on one of your trips (maybe on the northern sections of the BC Rail network) if you have one when we are there.

I had a wonderful day at your Squamish Museum site, and found your staff very enthusiastic and friendly. Your website is very interesting and informative. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the rail trip from Vancouver to Whistler and beyond. I find it almost unbelievable to hear that passenger services on this line have been abandoned even during the summer tourist season. I hope someone in power in BC has a rethink!! |

Very disappointed to see the CEO of the WCRA quoted in the local Vancouver press as saying that regular commuter service to Whistler from Vancouver is not economically viable. The reason it isn't is because governments do not support rail transport at the same rate as highway transport. IF the public were informed about how much the highways are being supported I am sure support for rail subsidies would grow. The public is gradually becoming aware that highways are very costly, both in terms of tax support and in terms of cost to the environment, not to mention the huge cost in death and injury occuring daily. Organizations such as the WCRA are doing a disservice both to their supporters and the general public by not championing passenger rail. Once the true costs are made known then it will become obvious how commuter rail from Vancouver to Whistler and other points in BC will make economic sense. Thanks and keep up the good work. |

Hi,
I used to live in Vancouver when BC rail operated
the Royal Hudson. While sad to see its no longer
running, I'm glad to see that it was not scrapped.
Plan to take my son (2 years old, in love with trains)
to see it on our next trip to Vancoouver. |

Nice to see that there are dedicated people to preserve our "Canadian Way". I spent 4 years on the tracks with a Fairmont doing signal maintenance for CPR and my heart races still everytime I hear a motorcar dashing up the track. (not that there are any on our island.) |

I had the pleasure of travelling to the summit of the Malahat and return in July 2001.
I am returning to Victoria in July this year (2002)and are hoping to do another train trip up the Malahat.
I have heard rumours that this train is to cease due to lack of finance. I hope this is not the case as I believe this train trip is really a part of Vancouver Islands heritage and that is why people like myself are drawn to these parts of the world.
My daughter resides in Canada (has residency) and lives in Saanichton and my stay will be with her.
I would be pleased to hear of any other train excursions or museums on Vancouver Island or Vancouver city and its environs.
I have had a life long fascination with rail and are only to pleased to bring a pictorial book on New Zealand rail with me to give to your society and would be pleased to know if there is a similar book on Canadian Rail.
Kindest regards
Bruce |

My thanks go out to Keith and Karl Anderson (our tour guides) and also to Phil the cook on the Bud car. Thanks guys, you made my trip memorable.
I will highly recommend this trip and any others that your organization puts on. Keep up the good work! |
