DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATION

The West Coast Railway Association is a charitable non-profit society whose goal is the preservation of railway heritage in British Columbia. The Association has over 1500 active members who preserve, restore and maintain vintage railway motive power, cars and equipment. This focus has resulted in the assembly of over 65 pieces in the collection, located at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park in Squamish, B.C., making it the second largest railway equipment collection in Canada. The Heritage Park is a family attraction that tells the story of railways in the formation of Canada, the settling of the West and the development of British Columbia.

The Director of Development and Communication is a new full time position and the successful candidate will lead the WCRA's growing fundraising and communication program.

Reports to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for managing the WCRA development office in the Vancouver area and raising funds through a variety of major gift incentives directed at annual and major donors, foundations and planned gifts. In addition, as Director of Communication, the successful candidate will be responsible for building the association's profile by working with media and co-ordinating media opportunities, donor events and presentations. Additional duties include some publication work and working with the association's web-site director in developing on line fund-raising.

The successful candidate will have a college degree or equivalent professional preparation and possess at least five years related experience and strong knowledge and background in fund raising programs. Communication skills are essential and you have a strong background of working with staff and volunteers.

This is a growth opportunity to build creative and effective fund development and communications initiatives and to work with the association's senior volunteers and Board of Directors.
